An illiterate third world country with an average life expectancy of 59 years, Ethiopia is the 4th most hungry country in the world with a GHI (Global Hunger Index) of 24.4. With their hunger problems stemming from droughts, unclean water, and other environmental concerns, the country has been hunger deficient since 1980. Distended stomachs, stunting, and cradle death are extremely prominent in Ethiopia, with 78% of the population living on less than 2 USD per day. Preventable diseases like malaria account for at least 60% of all health problems in Ethiopia. 2 out of 5 children are stunted, halting their growth, and 81% of children have a nutrient deficiency causing kwashiorkor, or distended stomach. This is caused by lack of protein balancing out the calorie intake.
